First Aid is the immediate care given to a
person who is injured or ill. Sudden illness or injury can often cause
irreversible damage or death to the casualty unless proper care is initiated
as soon as possible. The
Workplace Health and Safety
and
First
Aid Regulations identify the type of First Aid and number of First
Aiders required for all worksites. First Aid includes recognizing life-threatening conditions and acting to
prevent death or further injury, to ease pain and discomfort, and to provide
treatment until advanced medical aid arrives.
Experience and statistics has shown that First Aid Training saves lives,
promotes safety and reduces accidents. First Aiders are able to
recognize unsafe situations and correct them, take charge of an emergency,
keep calm while under pressure and organize other to do likewise
